She is a former World No. 1. Mauresmo won two Grand Slam singles titles in 2006, at the Australian Open and at Wimbledon.
Mauresmo first attained the top ranking on September 13, 2004, holding it for five weeks on that occasion. She was the fourteenth World No. 1 in women's tennis since the computer rankings began. She is well known for her powerful one-handed backhand and her strong net play. She is coached by Loïc Courteau.
French tennis star Amelie Mauresmo had to pull out from the Brisbane International due to having strained her thigh.
However, Mauresmo is hoping to have recovered well enough to be able to take part in the Australian Open later this month.
29-year-old Mauresmo was 4-0 behind in the semi-final match against Marion Bartoli when she was forced to retire from the game.
Mauresmo, who was the winner of the 2006 Australian Open, explained that she had been thinking about the forthcoming Grand Slam tournament when she decided to give up.
Mauresmo’s career has gone downhill over the past two years due mainly to injuries she has suffered, and she has dropped down to 23rd in the world rankings.
Mauresmo is having an MRI scan on Saturday to see how bad her injury is.
Nevertheless, Mauresmo will probably be fit enough to play in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season that is due to start on 19 January.

Personal life Kaka married Caroline Celico, then 18, on 23 December 2005 in Sco Paulo. The wedding was attended by about 600 people, including fellow players from his national team, as well as other well known international players. Guests included Ronaldo, Adriano, Cafu, Dida, Jzlio Baptista and Brazilian national coach Carlos Alberto Parreira. Kaka first met Celico, who comes from a wealthy Sco Paulo family, in 2002, and they started dating soon after. The relationship survived Kaka's move from Sco Paulo to Italy in 2003, while she was still at school. It is likely that Celico will stay in Brazil in the short-run, but the couple plan to live together in Italy soon. Against the stereotypical trend of football stars, Kaka is proud he was a virgin when he married.[1] Celico's mother, Rosbngela Lyra, is the director of Dior in Brazil.
